Power Words: Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10

Chantale* was on the point of giving up. Her dream of becoming a doctor seemed unattainable now that she had failed her coursework multiple times. When my wife and I met with her, she was disconsolate. We realized that this wasn’t just about a career–it was about proving to her estranged family that she was worth something.

We sat down and talked for several hours, finally convincing this talented young woman that God has a time and plan for everything and even the disappointments in life fall into the greater picture that He has for His own.

Fast-forward five years. Chantale has achieved her dream and is thriving as an ace healthcare professional who entered the field just at the outset of the COVID pandemic. She’s in the frontlines, saving lives and making a difference for so many.

I wonder sometimes what would have happened if we hadn’t had that long talk, if she hadn’t accepted that the power of Ephesians 2:10. Did our words then somehow result in a life saved now?

I like to think so.
