JP’s story
My journey as a writer officially began when I got my first byline in a local newspaper in New York. I was a freelance journalist but everything I wrote had a sort of story-like feel. In high school, English was my strongest subject. I remember one of my teachers offering a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card to any student who scored a 100 on the 6 hour year-end state exam.
I scored a 98.
I tied with my academic “arch-rival” for the highest score in class and graduated at 16 years old with honors. In university, I earned my B.A. in English and French at 19 and then got my first job in project coordination/B2B marketing.
For years I went in a different career direction. Teaching, church administration, and community service. But in 2016, I drafted my first novel, Twiceborn (now out of print). This was followed by four others that centered around European history. The Northshire Heritage trilogy catapulted my writing career, winning awards and earning the #1 spot on Amazon’s Historical Thrillers’ category on multiple occasions.
Now, I’ve swung my writing to telling stories of Black achievers, of multidimensional men and women who faced down overwhelming odds to quietly shape history.
