Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13
We ushered in 2020 with a watch service at my church. Despite the fact that we started at 10:30 p.m. and went on until about 1:00 a.m.—and some of us had just come in from a 8 hour+ day at work—it was a tremendous atmosphere of encouragement, power, and faith.
What stayed with me was the importance of drawing on God’s power to be able to face whatever challenges lie ahead this year. The Christian can only withstand the pressure of the age by pulling from the power of the Holy Spirit within.
“Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world (1 John 4:4)” took on new meaning as I realized that it’s not up to me to find the strength to lead my family, face down fear and uncertainty, shepherd our children and be a role model.
All the strength I need is in Christ. And HE is in me. Not only in me but in every one who belongs to Him.
The admonition then to “stand” is a choice. A choice to use God’s strength instead of our own. To choose faith instead of fear. And by faith to conquer in Jesus Christ’s name.
It was a real blessing and on that note, I hope you all have a prosperous, healthy and happy 364 more days of 2020.
Writer Wednesday and all the other posts will resume next week.
P.S. What’s one thing you hope to accomplish this year? My goal is simple–get to bed by 9 p.m. at least 3 nights per week!
Yeah, I know. Keep dreaming, right? LOL! 🙂
