For Writers: Leverage Linkedin

When many authors think of useful social media platforms, our minds often swing to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. But to ignore Linkedin is to do yourself an injustice.

Here’s why.

Linkedin offers you the unique opportunity to make professional contacts that can generate referrals, endorsements and—if you’re a stickler for realism like me—connections that work in the industries featured in your book.

For example, I connected with a government employee on Linkedin whose work experience offered a wealth of information that will be invaluable in writing The Genesis Conspiracy, my upcoming YA sci-fi political thriller.

Boost your credibility by listing your credentials, honors and milestones. Readers and potential contacts can see, at-a-glance, where you’ve been and where you’re headed. This can easily win you stages that can pay off big time.

In short, while Linkedin may not generate the immediate sales you’d like to see, the bigger picture benefits make it worthwhile.

  1. Very good advice. It is certainly a goldmine of potential readers as well. We spend years making dozens or hundreds of contacts on Linked in. Some of those people know us very well and might want to read our works. I might add that you consider using Alignable as well. ~clint. Bearridgebooks.com 🙂
